Legends in Silk: Discover the Enchanted New Designs from Silktopia
New Designs Coming Soon: A Journey Through Silk, Story, and Soil
Nestled between the historic silk towns of Derby and Macclesfield, in the quiet elegance of Buxton, we continue a storied tradition. Our silk scarves are not mere accessories—they are heirlooms in the making. Illustrated tales stitched in colour and care, inspired by the botanical beauty of the British Isles.
This season, we invite you into a new chapter of our Heritage Collection. Three exquisite designs—Meadow-flower, French Bulldog – Jester of the Garden, and Mermaids Pool—each crafted to enchant, and each rooted in our land’s rich flora, fauna, and folklore.
Step into a sun-drenched field of wildflowers, wander into a secret garden watched over by a curious French Bulldog, or gaze into the dark, reflective waters of a moorland tarn said to hold the gaze of a mermaid.
Mermaids Pool
Where folklore flows beneath the waterline
High on the moors above Buxton lies a pool shrouded in legend. Mermaids Pool is said to be home to a mystical siren, seen only beneath moonlight. This design dives into that mythic realm—where water lilies bloom like secrets and dragonflies hover like whispered tales.
A palette of dusky greens, soft blues, and shimmering silvers evokes the still, enchanted waters of the Peak District. Here, flora meets fantasy. Each element is steeped in story, honouring the romance of local folklore and the haunting beauty of Britain’s hidden landscapes.
In one telling, a local Easter pilgrim, Aaron Ashton, regularly journeyed to the pool each year to witness her. He lived to the remarkable age of 104—an old age for his time— fuelling whispers that perhaps her gift was real. Yet this longevity carried its own weight: folklore suggests no man could love another once enchanted by her beauty.
Near the pool, the roar of Kinder Downfall under high winds gives an otherworldly echo, lending credibility to those who believe this tarn was once part of Celtic water worship.
But legend holds two ends: meeting the mermaid might bring immortality—or drag the seeker to an eternal watery grave. Her gaze is both blessing and curse!
